Selected Sights

With the reopening of the Liechtenstein Museum on 29 March 2004, some of the art treasures in the Princely Collections returned home to the Garden Palace in Vienna. They had been on public exhibition there up to 1938, and were known as the "most beautiful private collection" in the world.

The art collection of the Belvedere Gallery includes masterpieces from the Middle Ages and Baroque until the 21. century, though it focuses on Austrian painters from the Fin de Sicle and Art Nouveau period. The best known artists on display are Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele.

On an area of 22.000 square meters, the Technisches Museum Wien offers a wide range of fascinating insights into the world of technology. Unique exhibits from the past to the present make the house a venue for exploring exciting technological developments.

The MuseumsQuartier Wien is one of the ten largest cultural complexes in the world. But above all, it is a forward-looking, inner-city cultural district that will have an enormous impact on future trends. The MuseumsQuartier unites baroque buildings, new architecture, cultural institutions of all sizes, various disciplines of art, and recreational facilities in a single spectacular location.

The Giant Ferris Wheel, trademark of Austria's capital city and a symbol of Vienna's world-famous Prater (and, of course, for VLDB 2007), creates a very special point of reference for every visitor with its unmistakeable silhouette, clearly visible even from great distances.
